Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2026-11-01

KinTerm puts your privacy first. Family data, dates, red envelope records, albums, Family Stories recordings (from version 1.3.0) and almanac settings are stored on your device; we have no servers of our own, so none of it reaches us. A copy is kept in your own cloud account only if you turn on Premium auto sync, or if your phone's own system backup (such as iCloud Backup or Google backup) is on. This page explains how the app and this website handle your data.

In-app data

We do not collect any personal data

Everything the app stores stays on your phone and is never sent, uploaded or synced to us. We have no servers of our own and no accounts, so your data simply never reaches us. Backup is always your choice: a backup file is exported by you and saved wherever you choose; Premium auto sync only runs once you turn it on, and keeps its backup in your own iCloud or Google storage; your phone's system backup (iCloud Backup on iPhone, Google backup on Android) backs up app data on the phone, including this app, to your account and restores it when you switch phones or reinstall — whether it's on is set in your phone's system settings, not in the app. The app's own backup contains the data listed below, including family portraits, album photos and Family Stories recordings (from version 1.3.0), but not your Premium status (use "Restore Purchase" on a new phone). We cannot reach any of it.

Data scope

The app may store the following on your device locally:

  • The family members you create: name, relationship to you, spouse, deceased status, an optional portrait, and the photos in each relative's album; plus the recordings, text and photos you add for relatives in Family Stories (from version 1.3.0)
  • The dates you save: name, date, whether it follows the lunar calendar, the relative it belongs to and reminder settings
  • Your red envelope and gift records (person, amount, occasion, date, note), almanac settings (the zodiac sign you set and the temples you turn on), the sequence you enter in Generation Names (from version 1.3.0), your purchase status, and preferences such as regional vocabulary, language, voice, text size and theme

All of the above is stored on your device. If you delete the app, this data is wiped from this phone; if your phone's system backup is on, a copy may remain there.

Permissions

The app asks for a permission only when you use the matching feature: notifications when you turn on a reminder for a date or temple day, the photo picker when you add a picture for a relative, the microphone when you tap Record in Family Stories (from version 1.3.0), and calendar write access when you choose to add your dates to the system calendar. Camera, location and contacts are never requested: kinship terms and the almanac do not depend on where you are, pronunciation is synthesised rather than recorded, and relatives are entered by hand.

Notifications
Optional

A local notification before a saved date, solar term, temple day or the daily reminder is due; scheduled on the phone itself, never through a server

Photo library
Optional

The system image picker when you add a portrait or album photo for a relative; the app receives only the photos you choose and keeps a copy so the picture stays after you tidy your camera roll

Network
Optional

Kinship terms, the family tree, the almanac and fortune are fully offline; the app connects to your own cloud storage only after you turn on Premium auto sync, or when you restore from the cloud; exporting the family tree or New Year Cheat Sheet (from version 1.3.0) PDF downloads a font if your phone does not have it yet

Calendar
Optional

Only when you tap "add to calendar": the dates you saved are written into the calendar you pick, and existing events are never read

Microphone
Optional

From version 1.3.0: used only when you tap Record in Family Stories, and only for as long as you record; the app never listens otherwise. Recordings stay on this phone and travel with the backups you choose, never uploaded to us; deleting the story deletes the recording

Camera / location / contacts
Not requested

Never requested: the app takes no photos, kinship terms and the almanac do not depend on where you are, pronunciation is synthesised rather than recorded, and relatives are entered by hand

App third-party services

The app uses no advertising, analytics or tracking tools (no Google Analytics, no Firebase, no Meta tracking). Kinship terms, the family tree, dates, the almanac and fortune all work without the internet. The app only connects to the outside in four cases: once you turn on Premium auto sync, it writes a backup to your own iCloud or Google Drive (and connects there when you restore from the cloud); Apple App Store or Google Play handling the one-time Premium payment (payment details stay with the platform and the app never touches your card); exporting the family tree or New Year Cheat Sheet (from version 1.3.0) PDF when your phone does not have the Chinese font yet, which downloads it from Google's public font service and never sends family names, red envelope records or the PDF's contents (without a connection the font can't be fetched and no PDF is exported, so you never get one with missing characters); and checking for a new version when the app opens (see "Checking for updates" below), which fetches only public version information.

Sharing and exporting

When you share a greeting, the daily fortune stick or the lucky-colour card, export the family tree PDF or your gift records as a table, or share the New Year Cheat Sheet or Family Terms Chart (from version 1.3.0), the app hands it to your phone's share sheet and you decide where it goes. The app never sends anything by itself and keeps no record of what you share.

Deleting your data

You can delete a family member, a red envelope record or a personal event in the app at any time; deleting a story in Family Stories (from version 1.3.0) deletes its recording too. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its data in system settings, wipes everything on this phone. If you used auto sync, delete the backup from your own iCloud or Google Drive; if your phone's system backup is on, manage or delete it in your phone's system settings. Since we don't have any of your data, you don't need to email us a deletion request.

Website contact form

When you submit the contact form on this site we receive your name, email, subject, message, IP and user-agent. We use them only to reply to your inquiry — never for marketing, never shared with third parties.

Website third-party services

This site's connection and security protection are provided by Cloudflare, and notification emails from the contact form are sent through Postmark / Resend. These services only handle what is needed to show the site and send mail, and never touch the data the app keeps on your device.

Your rights

Email buy.weimi@gmail.com any time to query, correct or delete your contact record.

Children's privacy

Neither the app nor this site is designed for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Checking for updates

To let you know when a new version is out, KinTerm checks App Store or Google Play for the latest version and reads the version notice on the KinTerm website when it opens. Like opening a web page, these checks only fetch public version information and never send any of your data or records in KinTerm.

Policy changes

Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date on this page. Please check back periodically.
